Getting Started...

Well, everyone has to start somewhere.

Syntax:

Before anything, we should go over the basics of how to read Yui's command prompts and Syntax

Do not type: < >, {}, [ ], or | in your commands, these are only placeholders!

Example of Command:

This is for the Remindme Command

In the world of Syntax, this is the mess you'll be dealing with. But with a little practice, you can read it like a second language!

There are four basic notations that you have to keep a track of:

<Marcations> - Represents that the function within the designated boundary is REQUIRED

{Curly Brackets} - Represents that the function within the designated boundary is OPTIONAL

A | Vertical Bar - SPLITS the content into separate into different pieces

and [Brackets] - CHOOSE one of the functions within the command within set boundary. It usually has a Vertical bar to split the functions.

Reading the Command:

Above, Yui wrote:

y!remindme [<reminder> in <{00 days} {00 hours} {00 minutes}> | list | remove <id> | clear]

Reading the above, we have [brackets] to deal with. Yui is saying we have 4 options.

  • y!remindme <reminder> in <{00 days} {00 hours} {00 minutes}>

  • y!remindme list

  • y!remindme remove <id>

  • y!remindme clear

Each Function performs something different. y!remindme list and y!remindeme clear are pretty straight forward. For now, we'll focus on the first bullet.

y!remindme <reminder> in <{00 days} {00 hours} {00 minutes}>

In here, we have <Marcations> and {Curly Brackets}. We have the first bracket: <reminder>. In here we have to type what will be our "Reminder". Maybe take out the trash? How about giving and fulfilling the promise that you were supposed to give some money to your friend tomorrow? Whatever you place in here, this will be your "Reminder" in the <reminder>.

Next we have: <{00 days} {00 hours} {00 minutes}>. This is saying: Out of the 3 Optional sections that are provided, you need to provide some Required response in the for section here. We can say 7 days. Or maybe, 3 days 30 minutes. Maybe even 4 days 3 hours 51 minutes. Whatever the case, we have to have at least some response out of the optional sections provided.

So an example of using this format would be:

y!remindme <reminder> in <{00 days} {00 hours} {00 minutes}>

y!remindme Gaming Time!! in 7 hours 27 minutes
